Day 4 07/07/11

After a little doze on the plane I stayed awakw for the rest of the flight. We landed in Melborne at 5.30am, early enough to have made the Launceston flight that morning but unfortunately unable to get seats on it. We had a very long wait for the next one, which was delayed officially by an hour, but it was probably closer to two. We slept flat out on the floor of the ‘gate lounge’ and chatted to a couple of nice people also waiting. The flight itself was really short and I took the opportunity to have a nice nap! By this point it was more than 24 hours since I’d had a proper sleep! It was worth it though - we got to Launceston and as soon as we were in the airport we met Sarah and her Dad. Sarah was almost at the point of hyperventilation! We got into the car, which had a sign in the back window saying ‘Welcome to Tassie Pip and Eliza.’ Both of us were really tired, but we stayed up and met Sarah’s mum Kate, sister Olivia and bonkers King Charles Spanial George, tho apparently doesn’t like visitors but seems to have warmed to me alright! Sarah, Eliza and I had a great catch up then went to bed.

Day 3 06/07/11

This has been a weird day. My body clock has no idea what’s going on! We are currently in the plane just off the north west coast of Australia. Everything feels very close and a little unreal. In 24 hours Eliza and I will be ast Sarah’s house! We set off from Dubai this morning, though the flight did not require such an early start as mine from Heathrow. Everything went very smoothly, and in departures an intimidatingly enthusiastic woman sold us ‘Pinkberry’ frozen yoghurts - something I had never tried before but would love to have again! Unfortunately on the plain the pair of us were unable to sit together, however Eliza pointed out we have nearly 4 weeks of each other’s constant company on the agenda, so perhaps it’s for the best. My window seat was switched for an aisle one. It is a slight inconvenience when others need to get up, but at least I’m not waking people up for my regular loo trips!
